Scientists at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, UC Santa Barbara and Dow are working on an innovative process for the chemical recycling of plastics.
The study aims to transform polyethylene (PE – the most produced plastic) into polypropylene (PP – the second most produced plastic) in order to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
With the proof of concept already established, they seek to improve the efficiency of the process, making it a highly scalable solution.
