In a world where water is an increasingly precious resource, the innovation and talent of young people are essential to ensuring sustainable management. To promote this vision, the Botín Foundation Water Observatory launches its annual Young Talent Awards.
This initiative recognises the creativity and dedication of those who dare to think differently. Its main goal is to acknowledge, support, and disseminate ideas, projects, and technologies that are making a positive impact on the sustainable management of water. It aims to highlight the work of individuals who, through science, engineering, or technology, are developing tangible solutions to one of the greatest challenges of our time.
Application period: Open from 22 March to 31 July 2025
The call is specifically designed to support the next generation of leaders in this field. Categories include:
• Category A: ‘M.R. Llamas’ Young Talent Award, open to individuals under the age of 40, regardless of nationality. The award values not only individual work but also celebrates collaboration, allowing participation by teams led by a representative. This creates a unique opportunity to reward collaborative innovation. Water management projects that have contributed to sustainable water management in any context or location are eligible.
• Category B: No age limit. Projects and artistic creations in the fields of visual, graphic, performing, or performance arts centred around water.
• Category C: No age limit. Actions and initiatives aimed at improving aquatic or terrestrial ecosystems related to inland water bodies.
The prize for each of categories A, B and C will consist of a cash award of €1,500 (including taxes).
To be eligible, submitted projects must demonstrate a real and tangible contribution to sustainable water management, regardless of the geographical context in which they have been developed. This broad scope ensures the award recognises solutions applicable to diverse scenarios—from improving irrigation systems to purifying water in remote communities.
The recognition offered by the Botín Foundation enhances the international visibility of the winning projects. It also serves as a springboard to connect with a prestigious network of experts and organisations in the water sector.
