Today we would like to introduce SpectralGeo, a startup specialised in developing computer vision and artificial intelligence solutions to increase efficiency in the agriculture and environmental sectors.

What problem does your startup address and what solution does it offer?
We first started collaborating with Ecoembes when they needed to automate the Peralta Mancomunidad plant. Since then, reducing it to just one problem and one solution would not do justice to the relationship we have built.
Since 2019, when we began working with Ecoembes, we have already developed more than 15 projects together. The developments carried out in Peralta have improved efficiency by more than 20% and enabled decisions to be made based on data rather than intuition or perception.
How and why did you embark on this entrepreneurial journey? Any advice, based on your experience, that you would like to share with future entrepreneurs?
It was the result of several factors. Firstly, I wanted to return to my homeland – I am from La Rioja, but at the time I was living in Madrid. I had spent several years working for a major consultancy there and felt it was not the right path for me. In the end, returning to La Rioja and setting up SpectralGeo allowed me to reorient my career while reconnecting with my roots.
This way of returning to my homeland also applied to the professional sphere. The clients and projects I had during my consultancy career had little to do with what we develop now. We still work with major groups and businesses, but focusing on SMEs in our region and being able to optimise the real work of the people around us is far more rewarding.
This would probably be my message to future entrepreneurs: persevere, because when the results come, the reward will be much greater than financial.
How do you expect the sector to evolve? And what are your expectations for your startup?
We have never been good at labelling ourselves. Today we say we are an Artificial Intelligence and Vision company, because that is the technology we are currently working with. But the truth is that we specialise in cutting-edge technologies. We are constantly innovating and looking for ways to make processes more efficient.
This sometimes “works against us”, as many in the sector struggle to fully understand the technology we provide. Even so, in recent years we have seen growing willingness from companies to modernise and start applying techniques to improve efficiency.
The old trend of having to replace “tangible” machinery in order to modernise is shifting, and it is becoming widely recognised that with software and minor adjustments to existing equipment, great results can be achieved.
In what areas would you like to collaborate with other startups, companies or organisations?
A vital part of our mission as a company is R&D&I. Collaboration with research centres and universities is key to ensuring SpectralGeo continues to move forward.
And of course, we are keen to collaborate with companies both in the recycling sector and in industry more broadly. Our work focuses on detecting inefficiencies and bottlenecks and then finding ways to mitigate them, so that businesses can move closer to their maximum productive potential.
