The European Commission, through its AI Office and in collaboration with the AI-Boost project, has launched the Applied AI Startup Awards, an initiative aimed at recognising European startups and scaleups developing artificial intelligence solutions with an impact on strategic sectors.
The call seeks to highlight emerging companies that combine technological innovation, market potential and a contribution to Europe’s competitiveness and technological sovereignty.
The awards will recognise artificial intelligence-based solutions applied to areas such as:
- health and pharmaceuticals
- mobility and transport
- robotics
- construction
- energy and climate
- agriculture
- telecommunications
- defence and space
- media
- the public sector
The three winning projects will be able to present their solutions during the AI Application Summit, which will take place on 17 November 2026 in Brussels. They will also receive a trophy, an official certificate and visibility through the European Commission’s communication channels.
The organisers will also cover travel expenses for up to two representatives per winning company.
Who is it for?
The call is aimed at:
- European startups and scaleups
- emerging companies with applied AI solutions
- projects with market potential and impact in strategic sectors
- solutions that help strengthen Europe’s technological competitiveness
The process will begin with the nomination of candidates by national startup associations, which may propose up to three companies per Member State.
Key dates:
- Submission of applications by nominated companies: from 1 to 22 July 2026
- Announcement of finalists: September 2026
- Online presentations before the jury: October 2026
- Announcement of winners: 17 November 2026, during the AI Application Summit in Brussels
