Material Futures Inc. is a Canadian cleantech company commercializing a bio-based alternative to fossil-derived carbon black for food-contact plastics and packaging. Our proprietary BioCarbon Black is produced from sustainably sourced forestry residues and is free of detectable polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), providing a safer, renewable pigment for plastic applications. Unlike conventional carbon black, our material is engineered to support near-infrared (NIR) detection, enabling black plastic packaging to be identified and sorted by optical recycling systems. By combining recyclability, regulatory compliance, and cost-competitive performance, Material Futures helps plastics compounders, masterbatch manufacturers, and consumer brands meet sustainability targets without compromising product quality. The company is advancing commercial deployment through food-contact regulatory approvals, strategic manufacturing partnerships, and commercial-scale production.
