Acuaponia XXI is an environmental complex whose purpose is to disseminate and develop the aquaponic production system in Spain in its different areas of action, teaching, production, research, restoration, etc. Aquaponics is defined as a sustainable food production system that combines aquaculture (breeding of aquatic animals and plants) and hydroponics (growing plants in water) in a symbiotic and totally ecological environment. The word aquaponics comes from the contraction of the two words that combined give the neologism: acua – aquaculture, ponia – hydroponics.
