Cyclo develops end-of-life solutions for plastics and operates its own testing facilities. At these facilities, we found that the fine fraction from the trommel (below 40-60 mm), including caps, blister packs and capsules, is sent entirely to landfill without ever reaching an optical sorter. Detection is not failing: this plastic never reaches the detection stage. We have therefore developed a retrofit module to recover the fine fraction using density sorting, miniaturized optical/NIR separation and optional electrostatic separation. It turns a fraction currently recorded as 0% recyclable into tonnes of recovered material, improving packaging recycling rates.
