Nat4Bio is an agribiotechnology start-up that develops biological products for crop protection. Its first product is an edible, biodegradable, and chemical residue-free coating that extends the shelf life of fresh fruits by slowing down the ripening process and preventing post-harvest infections.
Food waste is an urgent issue on the global agenda and a significant obstacle to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Surprisingly, up to 50% of fruits and vegetables are wasted due to physicochemical and biological factors such as oxidation, dehydration, and microbial pathogen attacks.
Our goal is to extend the shelf life of fruits through a natural and fully edible coating that protects them from both deterioration factors. It is applied during the packing process after harvest, using existing equipment without requiring additional investments.
