Green TAQA, operating under YY ReGen, an innovator in agritech and renewable energy, is a Lebanon-based cleantech initiative addressing the country’s growing waste and energy crisis. Lebanon generates over 2 million tons of municipal solid waste annually, with 52–60% composed of organic waste, yet more than 98% is landfilled or openly dumped, releasing methane that is over 25 times more harmful than CO₂. At the same time, farms and restaurants face waste management costs of up to $154 per ton, electricity prices reaching $0.247 per kWh, and fertilizer costs of up to $2,000 per ton. In response, Green TaQa is developing a containerized anaerobic biodigester that converts organic waste into renewable biogas, which can be used directly as a clean cooking gas or to generate electricity through generators, as well as nutrient-rich biofertilizer, reducing emissions, lowering operating costs, and advancing a regenerative circular economy for Lebanon and the region.
