The European Commission has announced an investment of €1.3 billion for the deployment of critical technologies under the Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL) for the period 2025–2027. This funding will focus on strategic areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and the development of digital skills.
Calls for proposals under this programme are expected in April 2025 and will be open to companies, public administrations, and other entities from EU Member States, EFTA/EEA countries (European Free Trade Association / European Economic Area), and countries associated with DIGITAL.
This initiative is part of the EU’s broader efforts to strengthen its technological sovereignty and advance towards digital transformation, in line with the objectives set out in the “Digital Compass 2030”.
In addition, in February 2025, the EU announced the mobilisation of €200 billion for the development of artificial intelligence (read more here), with the aim of positioning Europe as a global leader in this field and avoiding falling behind the United States and China.
These investments reflect the European Union’s strong commitment to fostering innovation and reinforcing its position in the global technological landscape.
