This is my story – Bin-e

To start the year 2024, we interview Jakub Luboński, CEO of our hightlighted startup Bin-e, an innovative AI waste management solution that combines software and hardware to address the challenges of waste segregation and recycling.

What problem does your startup address and what solution does it propose?

Bin-e is an innovative AI waste management solution that combines software and hardware to address the challenges of waste segregation and recycling. The device addresses the urgent issue of inefficient waste management and the lack of recycling practices, which contribute to pollution and environmental harm. Our AI-powered smart bins streamline waste segregation and real-time monitoring, promoting a circular economy.

We offer a product line called “Bin-e Electro”, recently introduced to the Spanish Retail Sector thanks to our partner AMBIWASTE. AMBIWASTE is one of the most significant EPR’s (Extended Producer Responsibility) companies in Spain and was closely involved in the product and market development processes. Bin-e Electro addresses the problem of efficient and sustainable management of electrowaste, including items like bulbs, batteries, and small electronic appliances. Bin-e Electro is a revolutionary approach to smart recycling, primarily designed for use in the retail segment

We also offer a system called “Bin-e Reward,” designed to collect and recycle empty packaging while rewarding customers for their recycling efforts. Bin-e Reward addresses the problem of incentivizing recycling and reducing the environmental impact of empty packaging waste. Bin-e Reward provides an efficient and automated way to collect empty containers, streamlining the recycling process and making it more convenient for consumers. This system offers a tangible incentive for customers to adopt eco-friendly habits by rewarding them for their recycling actions.

Our mission aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 11, 12, and 13, with a focus on reducing waste, enhancing sustainability, and mitigating climate impact. In essence, Bin-e’s solution aims to transform waste management for a cleaner, greener future.

How, and why, did you start this entrepreneurial adventure? Any advice from your experience that you would like to pass on to future entrepreneurs?

Our entrepreneurial adventure began when we noticed a real-life issue: the challenges of office waste segregation. Despite initially seeming straightforward, it became apparent that many people struggled to understand and follow the rules of waste segregation.

This led us to explore potential solutions, ultimately resulting in the concept of our current waste management device. Our journey has taught us valuable lessons:

  • Persistence: Don’t give up in the face of challenges; entrepreneurship often involves overcoming obstacles.
  • Investment: Be prepared to invest time, effort, and resources into your venture.
  • Risk-taking: Embrace calculated risks to pioneer new ideas and innovations.
  • Problem-solving: Start by addressing real-world problems and needs in the market.
  • Iterative Development: Be open to refining your concept based on feedback and practical experience.

Entrepreneurship is a learning journey filled with opportunities for growth, so stay adaptable and open to new ideas as you navigate the entrepreneurial path.

How do you expect the sector to evolve? And what expectations do you have for your start-up?

We anticipate the waste management sector to continue evolving towards greater sustainability and efficiency. With increasing awareness of environmental concerns, there will likely be a growing demand for innovative waste solutions that promote recycling and reduce waste generation. As Bin-e, we aim to be at the forefront of this evolution by continuously innovating and providing cutting-edge waste management solutions.

Any new developments in the near future that you would like to share with the rest of the startups?

In the near future, we’re dedicated to solidifying our position in the market for rewarding systems that incentivize proper waste segregation. We’re also diligently working on groundbreaking features aimed at further motivating users to segregate waste effectively. While competition is fierce, we’re proud to share that we’re developing a system unlike any other in the world.

Furthermore, our overarching objective is to collaboratively implement the core project in Spain with AMBIWASTE and expand the product’s international reach.

We’re wholeheartedly committed to continuous innovation to better cater to the market’s demands and exceed our customers’ expectations. Get ready for some remarkable transformations!

In what areas would you like to collaborate with other startups, companies or other organisations?

We are open to collaboration in various areas, particularly in the development of our neural networks and the creation of fully customized devices to meet our customers’ needs. We welcome collaboration with other companies, or organisations that share our passion for innovation and are interested in working together to advance these areas of our business. If you have expertise, resources, or ideas that align with our goals, we would be eager to explore potential partnerships and collaborations to drive innovation and meet the unique needs of our customers.
